Thailand's Exports Hit Three-Year High, Tariff Risks Loom

Thailand's exports surged by 17.8% in March year-on-year, marking the ninth consecutive month of growth and reaching their highest level in three years. Exports to the US, Thailand's top market, jumped 34.3%, and shipments to China also saw strong gains. Imports rose by 10.2% in March, resulting in a trade surplus of $0.97 billion. Despite the robust export performance, Thai officials express concern over steep US tariffs at 36%, which could hamper future growth if not renegotiated. Upcoming tariff negotiations with the US are viewed as critical for sustaining export momentum. The Commerce Ministry remains cautiously optimistic but highlights risks from tariffs and global economic uncertainty.
