Aurora Police Sergeant Charged With Child Sexual Exploitation Faces FBI Investigation for Additional Victims
Aaron Jacob 'Jake' Bunch, a sergeant with the Aurora Police Department who served as a school resource officer and supervisor in multiple Aurora-area schools including Cherry Creek School District and Aurora Public Schools, was arrested on October 8, 2025, on federal charges of child sexual exploitation involving possession, distribution, and solicitation of child sexual abuse material. The FBI and Denver Police Department initiated the investigation after tips linked Bunch to sharing abusive images and videos and grooming a minor, to whom he paid $300. Authorities believe Bunch may have sought out additional minor victims during his 20 years in a position of trust from 2005 to 2025, although there is currently no evidence that students or children within the associated school districts were victimized. Bunch was placed on unpaid administrative leave and released on a $50,000 bond; he is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on November 5, 2025. The FBI is actively seeking potential victims or anyone with relevant information and assures confidentiality during the investigation, while Aurora Police Department is conducting an internal administrative review. The case has drawn condemnation from Aurora Police leadership, emphasizing the betrayal of public trust and the department's commitment to a thorough investigation.
