Seoul Sinkhole Fatality Above Subway Tunnel

A massive sinkhole in Seoul's Gangdong district swallowed a motorcyclist, identified by his surname Park, who was found dead after an 18-hour search. The 20-meter-wide and deep sinkhole opened suddenly above a subway tunnel under construction, and Park's body was recovered 50 meters from where he fell. A car narrowly avoided falling in, and its driver sustained minor injuries. The sinkhole, which contained a mix of soil and water, impeded rescue efforts, with about 1,800 tons of water pumped out. The cause of the sinkhole is under investigation, with potential links to a broken water main pipe. Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has urged for measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
