Kyle Larson Prepares for Memorial Day 'Double' Attempt

Kyle Larson, the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion and current points leader, is preparing for his second attempt at the Memorial Day 'Double,' aiming to compete in both the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 on May 25. In a weather-delayed opening practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Larson completed 45 laps and ranked 24th fastest out of 34 cars as he reacclimated to his Arrow McLaren Chevrolet. Last year, his 'Double' attempt was hindered by weather, with a rain-delayed Indy 500 and a rain-shortened NASCAR race that prevented him from competing in Charlotte. Recently, Larson won the AdventHealth 400 at Kansas Speedway, leading 221 of 267 laps, which propelled him to the top of the Cup Series points standings. He is only the sixth driver in history to attempt racing both events on the same day. This year's schedule presents new logistical challenges, with overlapping Indy 500 qualifying and the NASCAR All-Star Race next weekend, prompting Larson to prioritize the Indy 500 if conflicts arise.
