Fairfax County Schools Investigations Find Student Abortion Facilitation Claims Likely Untrue

Fairfax County Public Schools has denied allegations that a social worker at Centreville High School arranged and funded student abortions without parental consent, concluding that these claims are likely untrue based on an ongoing external investigation. The allegations, initially made public in August by a teacher named Zenaida Perez, suggested staff coerced and assisted students in obtaining abortions secretly in 2021. The school district's investigation found that Perez may have fabricated evidence, including forged student letters, and coerced students to support her claims. The former principal promptly investigated the matter in 2022, finding no factual support, and the school system stated that proper procedures were followed, with pregnant students referred to a school nurse who legally discussed reproductive health options. The Virginia State Police and federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Education and the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee are also investigating. Fairfax County Public Schools has emphasized its commitment to protecting staff from wrongful accusations and ensuring student wellbeing, while the pro-life group Americans United for Life, representing Perez, disputes the investigation's findings.
