Director Venkat Prabhu suggests that the film's heavy references to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cricket team may have contributed to its mixed reception outside Tamil Nadu. He humorously noted that as a devoted CSK fan, he believes that viewers from other regions did not enjoy the climax, which features a bomb threat during a CSK match, in the same way. Despite these challenges, 'GOAT' has performed well in Tamil Nadu and has grossed over ₹288 crore globally. An extended version of the film is planned for release on OTT platforms, promising additional scenes and content.
