US Treasury Includes Casino Chips in No-Tax Tip Policy Starting 2025
A new "No Tax on Tips" policy, proposed by President Donald Trump and codified in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, allows workers to deduct up to $25,000 in tips from their taxable income starting with 2025 tax filings, benefiting casino workers and others in tipping-reliant jobs. Casino chips are explicitly included as deductible tips, along with tips given by cash, card, check, gift card, and electronic payments. This policy also applies to tips reported under Tip Rate Determination Agreements and Gaming Industry Tip Compliance Agreements, which ease tax reporting for gaming industry employees. The policy covers 68 job categories, including casino dealers, cage workers, sportsbook employees, and even digital content creators, reflecting the modern economy. While critics argue the tax break might not help low-income workers significantly, it is viewed as a major benefit to tens of thousands of casino workers, especially in Nevada, where a significant portion of such jobs are concentrated. The policy is set to expire in 2028, with a public hearing scheduled for October 23 to address any questions.
