Elton John Receives $100K Glenn Gould Prize

Elton John has been awarded the 2025 Glenn Gould Prize, a $100,000 honor recognizing artists whose work enriches the human condition. The award, administered by the Glenn Gould Foundation, is typically granted to classical musicians but John is notable as a chart-topping pop star and only the second rock artist to win, following Leonard Cohen. Jury chair Kim Campbell highlighted John's impact on social issues such as LGBTQ+ rights and AIDS awareness, stating that his contributions extend beyond music. John expressed his admiration for Glenn Gould, stating he is 'awestruck and honored' to receive the award. In addition to the cash prize, John will choose a protégé to receive a $25,000 grant. The award will be presented at a gala in Toronto in the fall.
