Federal Inquiry on Foreign Interference Holds Hearings

A federal inquiry into foreign interference in Canada is currently underway, with hearings set to continue until October 16. Today, the inquiry will hear from senior officials of Global Affairs Canada, as well as RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme, who will provide insights into detecting and countering foreign meddling. The hearings are also focusing on the experiences of diaspora communities, with panels addressing civil liberties, racism, public awareness, and disinformation. Following the initial testimonies, the commission will hold a week of policy consultations starting October 21 to develop recommendations. A final report is expected by the end of the year, summarizing the findings and suggestions from the inquiry.
