Ukraine, US Conduct Site Visits for Minerals Investment Projects
Ukraine and the United States are advancing a minerals investment deal, initially promoted by President Donald Trump, with joint site visits underway to identify three pilot projects within the next 18 months. The agreement grants the U.S. preferential access to new Ukrainian mineral projects in exchange for financial investments aimed at rebuilding Ukraine's war-damaged economy and infrastructure, while also ensuring continued U.S. support for Ukraine's defense. Under the deal, half of the revenues generated from new mineral extraction will be placed into a joint investment fund shared between Kyiv and Washington, with plans to expand investments into the energy sector and infrastructure. Ukraine holds deposits of 22 out of the 34 minerals deemed critical by the European Union, including rare earth elements vital for defense, green energy, and high-tech industries, positioning the country as a strategic resource partner. President Trump has framed the agreement as a shift from open-ended aid to a resource-backed investment, securing tangible returns for U.S. support amid ongoing conflict with Russia. Both Kyiv and Washington view this deal as a key component in strengthening economic sovereignty and long-term cooperation.
