Tepper S&E plans 4,400-seat indoor music venue by BofA Stadium Charlotte

Tepper Sports & Entertainment has proposed a privately funded, 4,400-seat indoor music and events center on roughly 2 acres adjacent to Bank of America Stadium that would occupy an 89,000-square-foot building and host about 80–100 events annually, with construction expected to begin in 2027 and the venue opening in 2030. The project would require an adjustment to the ground lease between the city and Tepper Sports and is scheduled for a Charlotte City Council vote on Oct. 13; city officials say the venue would help fill a mid-range performance-capacity gap in Charlotte’s live-entertainment market. Tepper Sports says no taxpayer money will pay for the building, and city documents and reporting indicate the overall related stadium/venue work is being funded through a previously approved $650 million in hospitality funds paired with Tepper’s matching contribution as part of a roughly $1.3 billion project plan. The proposal includes commitments for at least 25% more publicly accessible open space than typically required, new pedestrian pathways and use of the building for Panthers pregame hospitality plus corporate and private rentals. The plan is part of a wider wave of roughly $1.7 billion in investments transforming uptown Charlotte with new apartments, offices, retail and hotels, and city staff note the design has not been finalized. Tepper acknowledged earlier that heavy “headwinds” and misperceptions had complicated development discussions but said the entry of Strategic Sports Group and other private equity eased concerns and catalyzed calm among stakeholders.
