Six Arrested in Laredo Human Smuggling Case

Authorities have arrested six individuals connected to a human smuggling operation that resulted in the death of a Guatemalan migrant in July. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas announced the latest arrests, which include Mexican national David Alejandro Gómez Flores, and Laredo residents Dagoberto Mizzael Flores and Angel Misael Elias, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to six. These individuals face serious charges, including conspiracy to smuggle an undocumented alien and causing death, with potential penalties of life in prison and a $250,000 fine. The incident occurred on July 2, when law enforcement pursued a vehicle loaded with undocumented migrants, leading to the discovery of a deceased male in the brush. Investigations revealed communications between the deceased and some of the suspects prior to his death, highlighting the dangerous conditions these individuals faced.
