Multiple U.S. Communities Hold 9/11 Memorial Stair Climbs Honoring First Responders

Across the United States, communities held memorial stair climbs on and around September 11, 2025, to honor the first responders, including 343 firefighters, who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks in 2001. Events in McHenry County, Woodstock, Albuquerque, Thomasville, Joplin, and Springfield featured participants climbing the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs, symbolizing the floors of the World Trade Center. Many climbers wore full turnout gear, adding physical weight to the tribute, and carried the names or badges of fallen firefighters to create a solemn atmosphere.
