Avangrid offshore wind project

The Town of Ocean City, Maryland, has filed a lawsuit against the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) regarding the US Wind project, which plans to install 114 offshore wind turbines near its coast. The lawsuit, supported by several local organizations, stems from concerns about potential negative impacts on the environment, tourism, and the fishing industry. Mayor Rick Meehan expressed frustration, stating that their concerns over the project's impacts had been ignored for over seven years. Meanwhile, in Barnstable, Massachusetts, local officials are opposing Avangrid's New England Wind 2 project due to environmental concerns, with a non-binding council vote against the landing of power cables at Dowses Beach. Barnstable has proposed a comprehensive study of potential landing sites which could delay the project. Both towns illustrate a growing resistance to offshore wind developments along the East Coast amid concerns over their ecological and economic impacts.
