Ethereum Confirms December 3 Fusaka Upgrade Launch With Major Scalability Improvements

Ethereum's next major upgrade, Fusaka, is officially scheduled for December 3, marking a significant step in the network's scalability and efficiency improvements. The upgrade introduces Peer Data Availability Sampling (PeerDAS), a novel technique enabling validators to sample smaller portions of data from layer-2 chains, which will increase transaction throughput and reduce costs. Fusaka will also quintuple the block gas limit from 30 million to 150 million units, effectively doubling the blob data capacity and enhancing layer-2 transaction speeds. This backward-compatible upgrade follows successful deployments on multiple testnets, including Hoodi, Holesky, and Sepolia, and incorporates about a dozen Ethereum Improvement Proposals aimed at optimizing validator operations, data availability, transaction capacity, and security. The Ethereum Foundation has also launched a $2 million audit contest to identify vulnerabilities prior to the mainnet launch. Prominent figures like co-founder Vitalik Buterin have emphasized PeerDAS as crucial for Ethereum's long-term scalability, positioning Fusaka as a major advancement toward high-throughput, low-cost blockchain operations.
