LAPD Officers Investigated for Offensive Remarks

A whistleblower complaint has emerged against several Los Angeles Police Department officers, revealing racist, sexist, and homophobic remarks captured in secret recordings. Over 90 recordings were made by a veteran officer in the recruitment office, documenting derogatory comments about colleagues and potential recruits. The complaint specifically accuses LAPD Sgt. Denny Jong of leading such conversations, which included offensive jokes about race and orientation. In response, Chief McDonnell removed several officers from the division, and Mayor Karen Bass condemned the remarks as 'outrageous and unacceptable,' emphasizing the need to reform LAPD recruitment practices. The Los Angeles Police Protective League also called for accountability, highlighting the importance of ensuring such behavior does not tarnish the department's reputation.
