Brazil Implements Visa Requirement for U.S., Canada, Australia Travelers Starting April 2025

Beginning April 10, 2025, travelers from the U.S., Canada, and Australia will need to obtain a visa to enter Brazil, ending the previous visa-free travel policy for tourism that allowed stays of up to 90 days. The Brazilian government has established an electronic visa platform, which can be accessed through VFS Global, the only authorized processing company. Those who already hold a valid physical visa are exempt from applying for a new one, while those intending to stay longer than 90 days must secure an extension from Brazilian authorities. Canadian travelers are advised to ensure their passports are valid for at least six months beyond their departure date from Brazil and to be aware of heightened travel advisories due to crime in certain areas. The visa application process is estimated to take around five business days, and applicants are encouraged to apply at least two months in advance. This change in policy reflects Brazil's updated entry requirements aimed at enhancing border security and managing tourism.
