Morocco, Nigeria Reach WAFCON Final; Tourney Returns
Morocco reached their second consecutive Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final by defeating Ghana 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Rabat, with key contributions from Sakina Ouzraoui Diki and goalkeeper Khadija Er-Rmichi. Ghana initially led through Stella Nyamekye, but Morocco equalized in the second half. Nigeria, nine-time champions, advanced to the final by beating defending champions South Africa 2-1 with a stoppage-time goal from Michelle Alozie. The final will be played on Saturday, while Ghana and South Africa will contest the third-place playoff. The tournament was postponed from last year due to a clash with the Paris Olympics. WAFCON will return to Morocco next year.
