CrossCountry Launches Direct Cardiff-Edinburgh Train

CrossCountry has announced a new direct train service connecting Cardiff and Edinburgh, marking the first rail link between Wales, England, and Scotland in a single journey. The service will cover 455 miles, connecting 22 stations, and will start operating on December 16. The route will feature long-distance Voyager trains that combine at Birmingham New Street before heading north to Edinburgh, with a southbound journey that splits at Gloucester. CrossCountry’s Interim Managing Director, Scott Maynard, expressed excitement over the new connections for passengers across Great Britain. Both Scotland's and Wales' Transport Cabinet Secretaries welcomed the initiative, highlighting its potential positive impact on travel options and local economies. Ticket bookings are already open for this innovative service.
