Two Charged With Murder After Deadly Wedding Shootings in Southeastern France

Two men have been charged with murder as part of a criminal gang after a 27-year-old bride was fatally shot at a wedding party in Goult, southeastern France, an incident believed to be linked to drug-related score settling. Four masked gunmen opened fire at several guests, including the bride, groom, the groom’s sister, and the bride's 13-year-old nephew, leaving the bride dead and others wounded, some critically. One of the attackers was killed during the attack, reportedly shot and also hit by a vehicle, while his three accomplices fled, with two detained and one still on the run. The suspects appeared before a magistrate after 96 hours in police custody and were charged with murder and attempted murder as part of an organized gang, and have been remanded in custody. Prosecutors did not specify the motives, but sources indicated the groom was known to police for drug and organized crime offenses. The attack is also linked to a second shooting on the same day in nearby Avignon, where a man was killed and another injured.
