Family Murder-Suicide in Kalispell Detailed by Police
On May 11, 2025, a family of four—including Nicholas Olson-Hartley, 33, his wife Katie Olson-Hartley, 27, and their two children, ages six years and seven months—were found dead from gunshot wounds in their Kalispell, Montana home. Police determined it was a murder-suicide, with Nicholas Olson-Hartley killing his family before calling 911 and then taking his own life. The 911 call, made by Nicholas, contained several concerning statements before he disconnected. Authorities have not disclosed a motive or whether there was a previous history of mental health issues, but confirmed the call was related to a mental health crisis. This incident is among the most significant recent homicides in Flathead County, a region with typically low rates of such crimes. The tragedy comes just one day after a similar family murder-suicide occurred in Nebraska.
