Pedestrian Killed, Driver Charged With DUI in Asheville
A pedestrian was fatally struck by a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander on Swannanoa River Road in Asheville, North Carolina, around 12:48 a.m. on Memorial Day. The victim, who has not yet been identified pending family notification, was reportedly walking on or near the center line and died at the scene. The driver, 22-year-old Alyssa Rain Farmer, was charged with driving under the influence after police noted signs of impairment and she admitted to having been at a bar; chemical tests are pending. Farmer was released on a written promise to appear in court. The Asheville Police Department is continuing to investigate and plans to consult with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office about possible further charges. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact police or send anonymous tips.
