Pedestrian Killed, Driver Charged With DUI in Asheville

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander on Swannanoa River Road in Asheville, North Carolina, around 12:48 a.m. on Memorial Day. The victim, who has not yet been identified pending family notification, was reportedly walking on or near the center line and died at the scene. The driver, 22-year-old Alyssa Rain Farmer, was charged with driving under the influence after police noted signs of impairment and she admitted to having been at a bar; chemical tests are pending. Farmer was released on a written promise to appear in court. The Asheville Police Department is continuing to investigate and plans to consult with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office about possible further charges.
