Royal Caribbean Welcomes Second Icon Class Ship Star of the Seas
Royal Caribbean has officially taken delivery of Star of the Seas, its second Icon Class ship and co-largest cruise ship in the world, following nearly two years of construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. The ship features record-breaking attractions including six world-record waterslides, the largest waterpark at sea called Category 6, the AquaDome with panoramic ocean views and entertainment, as well as extensive family-friendly and adults-only areas such as pools, a suspended infinity pool, and unique foodstands. With a gross tonnage of 248,633, Star of the Seas will operate 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, including Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay. The vessel is powered by liquefied natural gas and equipped with advanced environmental technologies like shore power connectivity and waste heat recovery systems, reflecting the company’s commitment to eco-friendly innovation. After sea trials in May 2025, the ship is en route to Cadiz, Spain, for final preparations before its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral, Florida, in August, where Diana Ross will christen it. Royal Caribbean executives highlighted the ship as a bold step forward in reimagining vacations with a focus on delivering exceptional experiences and unforgettable memories for families and travelers alike.
