Nine Just Stop Oil Protesters Convicted Over Heathrow Disruption Plot

Nine Just Stop Oil protesters have been convicted for conspiracy to cause public nuisance after their plans to glue themselves to the runways at Heathrow Airport were thwarted by police. The group, consisting of seven members aged between 26 and 61, was intercepted close to the airport perimeter on July 24, 2024, carrying glue and angle grinders, indicating their intent to breach security and attach themselves to the airfield. The trial at Isleworth Crown Court revealed that their protest could have led to significant disruption, affecting nearly 260,000 passengers and endangering lives by potentially crossing active runways. Eight protesters were found guilty, while one had previously pleaded guilty. The police highlighted the serious operational consequences the protest could have posed to airport safety. Sentencing for the convicted individuals is scheduled for May 16.
