Dodgers donate $100 million for LA wildfire recovery

Los Angeles Dodgers minority owner Magic Johnson and chairman Mark Walter have launched a fundraising initiative called 'LA Rises' to support wildfire recovery efforts in Southern California, backed by a $100 million donation from the Dodgers Foundation and the Walter Family Foundation. California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the initiative, emphasizing the need for private-sector involvement alongside governmental support in rebuilding efforts. Johnson highlighted the commitment to not only recover but also strengthen communities, aiming for a more resilient Los Angeles. The initiative seeks to unite local business leaders with state officials to drive fundraising for areas affected by the recent wildfires, which have resulted in at least 29 fatalities and widespread destruction. Local sports teams have also pledged support, with all 12 professional franchises in Los Angeles contributing to the relief effort. The LA Rises initiative is intended to facilitate a long-term recovery strategy for the region.
