Sydney Sweeney Gains 30 Pounds for Christy Biopic at TIFF

Sydney Sweeney underwent a significant physical transformation for her role as legendary boxer Christy Martin in the sports biopic 'Christy,' which premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. To authentically portray Martin, the first female fighter inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, Sweeney gained 30 pounds through a rigorous regimen that included three daily training sessions over two to three months and a carb- and calorie-heavy diet featuring Chick-fil-A, Smucker's, milkshakes, and protein shakes. Directed by David Michod, the film also benefited from Sweeney's dedication to realism, as she and her co-stars engaged in full-force boxing scenes, often resulting in real bruises and concussions. Sweeney expressed deep admiration for Martin, who was present on set, and was visibly emotional after the film received a standing ovation at TIFF.
