UK Recalls Jolly Rancher Sweets Over Cancer Risk

The UK's Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an urgent recall and warning for several Jolly Rancher sweets, including Hard Candy, 'Misfits' Gummies, Hard Candy Fruity 2 in 1, and Berry Gummies, due to the presence of banned mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH) and mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons (MOSH), which are used to reduce stickiness and enhance shine. These substances are linked to DNA damage and an increased cancer risk if consumed regularly, though the immediate risk for consumers is considered low. The Hershey Company, which manufactures Jolly Ranchers, is cooperating with the FSA to remove the products from the UK market, but some retailers continue to import and sell them. The FSA urges consumers not to eat the affected products and to dispose of any they have, while enforcement action is being taken to ensure withdrawal from sale.
