Xiaomi Unveils YU7 Electric SUV Rivaling Tesla Model Y in China

Xiaomi has officially unveiled its new electric SUV, the YU7, positioning it as a direct competitor to Tesla's Model Y in China with a launch planned for July 2025. The YU7 features a sporty design with aerodynamic efficiency, a luxurious interior highlighted by a 1.1-meter curved Xiaomi HyperVision panoramic display, and is available in three colors: emerald green, titanium gray, and lava orange. It offers three variants—Standard, Pro, and Max—with ranges between 760 km and 835 km, and charging capabilities from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes. The SUV is larger than the Tesla Model Y and boasts competitive or superior specs including faster acceleration times, with the Max variant accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.23 seconds. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has acknowledged that the YU7 will be priced higher than Tesla’s Model Y, with pricing details to be released at launch. Despite recent challenges including a fatal accident involving a previous model and customer complaints, Xiaomi aims to strengthen its foothold in the EV market by leveraging its technological innovations and ambitious performance claims.
