Manhunt for Suspect in Shooting of Police Chief

A Blue Alert was issued early Friday morning in Texas after Seth Altman, 33, allegedly shot Memphis Police Chief Rex Plant. Altman, described as a 6'2", 220-pound white male with red hair and blue eyes, is considered armed and dangerous. He was last seen in Memphis, Texas, wearing a blue t-shirt and jeans, heading towards Highway 287. Altman is wanted for attempted capital murder of a peace officer, and officials urge the public to call 911 and not to approach him if seen. The alert, meant to quickly disseminate information about threats to law enforcement officers, spurred a statewide manhunt, but also drew complaints from residents awoken by the alert. The injured officer was flown to a hospital in Lubbock, and his condition is reportedly stable.
