Hong Kong Airport's Three Runway System Opens Nov. 28

The Three Runway System (3RS) at Hong Kong International Airport is set to officially commence operations on November 28, significantly enhancing the airport's capacity to manage up to 120 million passengers and 10 million tonnes of cargo annually. This expansion follows the previous handling of approximately 45 million passengers and 4.5 million tonnes of cargo, marking a capacity increase of about 30%. Officials, including Acting Financial Secretary Michael Wong and Airport Authority CEO Vivian Cheung, emphasize the strategic importance of this development for attracting new airlines and expanding routes, particularly towards underserved markets such as South America and Africa. The project includes a new 3,800-meter runway and expanded Terminal 2, with preparations for business and passenger services already underway.
