Oisin Murphy Charged With Drink Driving After Crash

Champion jockey Oisin Murphy, 29, has been charged with drink driving and failing to cooperate with a preliminary roadside test after crashing his car into a tree in Hermitage, West Berkshire, on April 27. He was charged by postal requisition on June 19 following an investigation by Thames Valley Police and is due to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on July 3. Despite the charges, Murphy has continued racing, including riding at Royal Ascot on the day he was charged, and is scheduled to compete up to the day before his court appearance. The British Horseracing Authority has not suspended him, and he retains the support of trainers and owners.
