Iowa Man Charged After Flag Strangling Incident

Adam Sotzen, a 39-year-old from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was arrested after allegedly attempting to strangle a woman with an American flag during a violent altercation. Reports indicate Sotzen arrived at the victim's home in North Liberty, possibly intoxicated, and began destroying property over a prior dispute. He allegedly twisted an American flag into a cord and wrapped it around the victim's neck, repeatedly telling her, 'You need to die'. The victim's boyfriend intervened, leading to a physical confrontation where Sotzen punched the boyfriend. Sotzen fled the scene but was later apprehended by police and charged with multiple offenses, including assault with intent to inflict serious injury, harassment, and operating while under the influence. Sotzen has a prior criminal record, having served time for a serious misdemeanor in 2012.
