Aldi plans £67m upgrades for UK stores

Aldi is set to invest £67 million in upgrading its UK stores in 2025, focusing on enhancing in-store features such as bakeries and health and beauty sections, as well as implementing CO2 refrigeration upgrades to reduce carbon emissions. This investment follows nearly £600 million spent on store improvements since 2017, which have included creating more space for fresh and chilled products and adopting energy-efficient LED lighting. Managing director Jonathan Neale emphasized the commitment to providing a better shopping experience and more sustainable stores. Additionally, Aldi plans to open over 225 new locations in the U.S. in 2025, marking the largest single-year expansion in its nearly 50-year history. This U.S. growth strategy is part of a five-year plan to open nearly 800 stores nationwide by 2028. The expansion aims to meet increasing shopper demand for affordable grocery options.
