Jamie Cullum Composes Music for RSC's The Constant Wife
Multi-award-winning jazz artist Jamie Cullum will make his theatrical debut this summer by composing original music for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s new adaptation of The Constant Wife, directed by RSC Co-Artistic Director Tamara Harvey and written by Olivier Award-winning playwright Laura Wade. The production, which stars Rose Leslie in the lead role, reimagines W. Somerset Maugham’s 1926 play with a modern twist and sparkling wit. Cullum expressed excitement about bringing his jazz background to theatre and collaborating with Harvey and Wade, noting the honor of contributing to such a classic work. Harvey praised Cullum’s influence on contemporary jazz and predicted that his music will add a new dimension to the story. The Constant Wife centers on Constance Middleton, a modern-spirited woman in 1920s London facing societal expectations and personal betrayal. The play will run at the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon from June to August 2025, with further casting and creative details to be announced.
