The Allahabad High Court has annulled the merit list for the recruitment of 69,000 assistant teachers in Uttar Pradesh, ordering the state government to prepare a new selection list within three months. Justices AR Masoodi and Brijraj Singh issued this directive while resolving multiple appeals regarding irregularities in the recruitment process. The court nullified the previous lists from June 2020 and January 2022, which included 6,800 candidates, due to inaccuracies in the application of reservation rules. The bench clarified that reserved category candidates who qualify for the general category merit list should be migrated to the general category, and vertical reservation benefits must extend to horizontal categories. Additionally, the court directed that current teachers should be allowed to complete the ongoing academic session to prevent disruption in students' education. This ruling underscores the need for transparency and compliance with existing guidelines in the hiring of teachers.
