The Congress has accused Buch of trading in listed securities worth ₹37 crore while in a position of power, which they claim violates SEBI's conflict of interest rules. In rebuttal, the Buchs have denied these allegations, describing them as false and malicious, and emphasized their commitment to high governance standards. Sitharaman acknowledged that the Buchs are responding to the claims but refrained from commenting on the adequacy of their defense. The controversy has led to calls for Buch to step aside pending an investigation. Sitharaman also expressed concerns regarding speculative activity in stock trading and emphasized the importance of using authentic financial information.
