Makita Recalls 63,000 Cordless Grease Guns After Laceration Injuries

News summary

Makita is recalling nearly 63,000 cordless grease guns and grease gun hoses due to a laceration hazard caused by the flexible hose developing holes that can eject grease during use. The recall affects Makita Professional Cordless Grease Guns with model numbers XPG01S1, XPG01SR1, and XPG01Z, as well as grease gun hoses with model numbers 191A79-9, 191A80-4, 191W59-7, and 191W58-9, all of which have spring ends. There have been five reported injuries worldwide, all outside the United States, involving hose failures that caused deep cuts. The tools were sold at hardware and home improvement stores and online between June 2020 and January 2025, with prices ranging from $60 to $390. Consumers who purchased the recalled products are urged to stop using them immediately and contact Makita for a free replacement hose by phone, email, or online. Serial numbers and model information are located on the battery mounting port and the right side of the grease guns, respectively.
