Several long-standing bars and pubs have recently closed across different regions, each marking the end of significant local social hubs. In Hamilton, Odds Bar shut down after seven years due to the end of its lease, leaving many community members saddened by the closure. Northampton’s popular rooftop venue Jimmy’s Sports Bar quietly closed after six years, with the site reopening under new ownership as Dubai Lounge, offering a different dining and entertainment experience. The Cotton Ball pub in Mayfield, Co Cork, ended its 151-year history, a decision described by the Lynch family as difficult, highlighting the pub’s deep-rooted role in the community. Meanwhile, the Royal Hotel in Hill End closed unexpectedly but discussions for a short-term lease and maintenance are underway to potentially reopen this historic establishment, the last remaining pub in the town.
