Hungary Secures Gas Supply Through Bulgaria

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced a legal and financial solution to ensure Hungary's natural gas supply remains stable amid U.S. sanctions against Russia's Gazprombank. After discussions with Bulgarian officials, Szijjártó confirmed that Hungary now receives most of its gas through Bulgaria, with over 7 billion cubic meters delivered this year via the TurkStream pipeline. The sanctions had threatened to disrupt payments through Gazprombank, which Hungary relied on for gas transactions, but an agreement has been reached to continue gas transit without sanctions complications. Both countries aim to maintain reliable energy supply amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and sanctions from the U.S. Additionally, similar concerns are echoed in Slovakia, which is also seeking solutions for gas payments affected by the sanctions. The situation highlights the intricate dependencies of European nations on Russian energy supplies despite emerging sanctions.
