Jonathan Rea has been ruled out of WorldSBK action at Magny-Cours after a first-lap crash in Race 1 left him with a fractured right thumb requiring emergency surgery. Rea's accident occurred amidst treacherous conditions that also saw Nicolo Bulega crash at the same corner. Michael van der Mark secured victory in the chaotic race, which saw numerous crashes and only 12 of the 22 starters finish. Defending champion Alvaro Bautista, who finished second in Race 1, crashed out in the superpole race, while series leader Toprak Razgatlıoglu was ruled out due to injuries from a practice session crash. Bulega's victory in the superpole race reduced Razgatlıoglu's championship lead to 80 points.
