Mahesh Pandey, a prominent Indian television scriptwriter and producer known for the iconic show 'Kasautii Zindagii Kay', has been arrested by the Mumbai police for allegedly defrauding film producer Jatin Sethi out of Rs 2.65 crore. The allegations stem from a complaint filed by Sethi, who claimed that Pandey promised to return the money after securing additional funds but failed to do so. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against Pandey, his wife, and other family members under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating and breach of trust. Pandey was taken into custody on August 5 and is currently in judicial custody, with a lookout notice issued for his wife. This incident has shocked the entertainment industry, given Pandey's successful career, which also includes producing the show 'Vidya'. Reports indicate that this is not the first time Pandey has faced allegations related to non-payment to actors from his productions.
