King Charles Begins Royal Week in Edinburgh with Ceremony of Keys

King Charles III and Queen Camilla have arrived in Edinburgh to begin Holyrood Week, the monarch's traditional week-long stay at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The King participated in the Ceremony of the Keys, where he was presented with the keys to the city of Edinburgh by Lord Provost Robert Aldridge, symbolically accepting and then returning them for safekeeping. The event included a Royal Salute and inspection of the Guard of Honour from the Royal Company of Archers, the King's ceremonial bodyguard in Scotland, as well as the Palace Guard consisting of soldiers from Balaklava Company, 5 Scots, and the High Constables of the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Music for the ceremony was provided by The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and the Pipes and Drums of the 2nd Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland. During the week, King Charles will hold an investiture ceremony and garden party, honoring notable figures including Olympian Duncan Scott, Paralympic champion Stephen Clegg, and artist Barbara Rae. The royal visit marks the resumption of Holyrood Week events after last year's shortened program due to the general election.
