BBC Studios Exits Indian Production, Partners with Banijay Asia

BBC Studios is exiting its production activities in India as it partners with Banijay Asia to focus on local adaptations of its content. This multi-year collaboration grants Banijay exclusive access to BBC Studios' extensive scripted and unscripted format catalog, which includes popular shows like The 1% Club and Dancing with the Stars. Banijay Asia will produce both existing and new formats tailored for Indian audiences. The decision to cease local production comes amid industry challenges, including market contraction and consolidation. As a result of this transition, some BBC Studios staff will lose their jobs, with four full-time roles and 30 fixed-term contracts affected. Both parties express optimism about delivering high-quality, impactful content through this strategic partnership.
