Bryan Kohberger Transferred to Ada County Jail

Bryan Kohberger, accused of murdering four University of Idaho students in November 2022, has been transferred from Latah County Jail to Ada County Jail ahead of his trial, now scheduled for June 2025. The change of venue was ordered by Idaho's Supreme Court, based on concerns that Kohberger could not receive a fair trial in Latah County due to extensive media coverage and community familiarity with the case. Judge John Judge highlighted that Latah County's small population made it likely that jurors would have connections to the case, thus affecting jury impartiality. The new presiding judge for the case is Steven Hippler, who will rule on various motions filed by Kohberger's defense team, including attempts to eliminate the death penalty as a sentencing option. Kohberger had spent 620 days in Latah County Jail before his transfer. His defense team had argued that a fair jury was unlikely to be found in Latah County, prompting the successful motion for the venue change.
