Hollywood Executive’s Son Dies by Suicide in Jail Amid Triple Murder Charges

Samuel Bond Haskell IV, son of a prominent Hollywood executive, died by apparent suicide in his jail cell shortly before a court hearing on charges that he murdered and dismembered his wife, Mei Li Haskell, and her parents, Gaoshan Li and Yanxiang Wang. Haskell was arrested in November 2023 after body parts were discovered in trash bags in Encino, with evidence linking him to the crime scene at their home in Tarzana. The bodies of the wife and her parents were dismembered, and the remains of the parents have never been found. Haskell was due in court to face charges that could result in life without parole and had pleaded not guilty. His death marks the 26th inmate death in the Los Angeles County jail system this year, highlighting a growing crisis with rising deaths in custody, which officials attribute to neglect by guards and medical staff.
