USPS Launches Nationwide Mailbox Maintenance Campaign

The U.S. Postal Service is promoting National Mailbox Improvement Week, observed annually during the third week of May, to encourage residents across the country to inspect, maintain, and upgrade their mailboxes. Acting Postmaster General Doug Tulino emphasized that well-maintained mailboxes are essential for the safe and efficient delivery of mail and packages. Common maintenance tasks include repainting rusted mailboxes, tightening hinges, remounting posts, and updating house numbers to improve curb appeal and postal operations. The USPS also urges residents to promptly collect their mail and report any vandalism to local authorities or postal inspectors to ensure security. This initiative is supported by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, which works to protect the mail system and prevent tampering. Various regional offices, including those in New Jersey, Minnesota, and Guam, have highlighted the importance of this campaign and offered tips for mailbox care and compliance with postal standards.
