Carney Appoints 38-Member Federal Cabinet in Ottawa
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has sworn in a new cabinet featuring 28 ministers and 10 secretaries of state, including a significant representation from Quebec. François-Philippe Champagne remains as finance minister and also takes on the national revenue portfolio, while Mélanie Joly shifts from foreign affairs to minister of industry with responsibility for Quebec's regional economic development. Steven Guilbeault continues as minister of Canadian identity and culture and now also oversees official languages. Heath MacDonald, MP for Malpeque, joins the cabinet as minister of agriculture and agri-food, replacing the retiring Lawrence MacAulay. Carney's cabinet blends experienced politicians with newcomers, such as former Goldman Sachs banker Timothy Hodgson, who will lead the energy and mining portfolio, aligning with his ambitious economic agenda. The cabinet appointments reflect Carney's strategy to maintain strong regional representation and advance economic priorities.
