WADA Won't Appeal Swiatek Doping Case
Iga Swiatek expressed relief and satisfaction after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) decided not to appeal her doping case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Swiatek, a five-time Grand Slam champion, tested positive for the banned substance trimetazidine due to contamination of her melatonin medication, which she was using for jet lag and sleep issues. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) accepted her explanation, reducing her suspension to one month, which she served by December 4. WADA confirmed that there were no scientific grounds to challenge Swiatek's case at CAS, aligning with ITIA's findings of no significant fault or negligence on her part. This decision allows Swiatek to focus on her tennis career, as she advances to the Australian Open quarter-finals. The ruling also draws a contrast with other cases, such as that of Jannik Sinner, who remains under scrutiny for a different doping issue.
