DHS Secretary Noem Announces Historic 45,000-Pound Drug Seizure

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced a significant drug seizure during a press conference at Port Everglades, where the U.S. Coast Guard offloaded over 45,000 pounds of cocaine and 50 pounds of marijuana, valued at more than half a billion dollars. The operation involved 14 interdictions of smuggling vessels in the waters off Mexico and Central and South America, showcasing the Coast Guard's vital role in maritime security. Noem emphasized that these efforts prevent addiction and save lives, stating that fewer families will suffer from drug-related issues. Coast Guard Acting Commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday reinforced the message to drug cartels, declaring, 'We own the sea, not you.' This operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and secure U.S. borders.
