Fatal Stabbing in Waukegan During Robbery Attempt

Adam Hoth, 42, of Grayslake, was fatally stabbed in Waukegan after attempting to rob two people who had arrived to purchase a motorcycle arranged via social media. The buyers were lured to a residence whose occupants were unaware of the transaction, and as they left, Hoth and an accomplice confronted them, threatening them with a brick, breaking their car window, and trying to steal their money. During a physical struggle, Hoth was stabbed multiple times and later died at a hospital. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office determined the stabbing was an act of self-defense, and no charges will be filed against the individual who used the knife. Police have indicated that additional charges related to the attempted robbery are possible as the investigation continues.
